This right here is my WTF moment of the day. Ueno Zoo, a cozy little animal sanctuary in Tokyo, recently performed an animal escape drill. These drills, which are held regularly, has some guy dress up in an animal suit and run amok. Folks will then try capturing it whilst making sure injured parties are taken care of.
That actually sounds rather nice. Yea, I would like to know what kind of safety procedures are in place, especially in case something mega crazy like a polar bear sets itself free. So, there I was wholeheartedly supporting it until I saw this video.
Er, yea. What was that? It was disturbing to think that no only did Mr Animal Suit look like an annoying mascot from a sports event but that he also acted like one. Surely that's not how a real tiger would act? Jostle the man, trample him once and then taunt him? Then run off giggling into your hand? Are we anticipating the release of Yogi Bear?
Look I'm glad they have this drill, as Nicholas-Cage-worthy as it looks. And to be fair, at least people will be prepared, to some extent in case that angry polar bear makes a run for it. Let's just hope the bear hasn't been watching these drills and taking notes. Would certainly be funny if all animals wait for the drill and plan an escape, something straight out of Victory (note: If they play some sort of sport before making the getaway, so much the better).
