This is part II of my top anime song list. Part I covered theme songs from Nana, Death Note, Vampire Knight and Black Blood Brothers. Want to learn more? I've added more to this list; it includes theme songs from Bleach, Ouran Host club, Kuroshitsuji and Trinity Blood.
1. Aqua Timez (Bleach opening 9: Velonica)
How can I talk about anime songs without mentioning Bleach? Bleach has featured a number of catchy songs. The best part is, they like to experiment with various genres and thus, there is something for everyone in the theme list. I have picked one of my personal favorites for this list (For a full list of opening themes and their performers, check here). This song was used from episode 190 onwards where Ichigo and co. are battling it out with the Espada. This part also covers Nel and the good folks discovering her true identity. I'd say the song was a nice indicator of the hectic fight scenes that made up this bunch of episodes … fight scenes with bits of sad, emo moments I might add. That wraps up my image of Aqua Timez in general; their songs are good but tend to lean towards the mushy, slow genre. Check out their songs here.
2.Chieko Kawabe (Sakura Kiss for Ouran Host Club)
That's right! After complaining about Aqua Timez – a few others – being too pop and mushy, I present this little number. It is the opening theme for Ouran Host Club, a fun anime series that caters mainly towards female readers. I think I will say goodbye to my street cred for a while, at least after featuring this song so willingly. Sakura Kiss sums up the anime quite well. It implies romance, fun and perhaps a bit of goofy moments here and there. When you listen to it, you know your favorite character is not going to fall off a cliff in a series with such an upbeat theme song. Her songs, in general, fall into the pop category and I hate to say this but a lot of them are rather catchy (case in point, Candy Baby). I'm never getting my street cred now, am I? Check out other songs here.
3. SID (Kiss of Monochrome for Kuroshitsuji)
This one's about the demon butler … or at least the series about the boy with a demon butler. The song by SID is a great opening number for Kuroshitsuji. It mingles a bit of glam into a pop song. I actually can't put my finger on it but the closest I can come to describing them is a mix between power and glam. I suppose their other songs (ones not related to the anime) like 'Sweet?' and 'Alibi' contribute to this image. Kiss of Monochrome certainly adds to the pace of the demon butler series; it's a re-imagining of British history filled with creepy thrills and slightly emotional moments. You get that from the song right? Perhaps not the British background bit but all the rest? Check out other songs by SID here.
4. Buck-Tick (Dress for Trinity Blood)
I know, it is a weird name for a band but it goes with the overall rock/glam rock image. Their songs, including Dress, have rock themes to them. By the way, if you are wondering what I mean by their glam rock moments, check out Kagerou which somehow reminds me of David Bowie. To this effect, it is perhaps fitting that they sang the rather sad, soulful opening for Trinity Blood. Certainly reminds you of Abel Nightroad and his tortured ponderings, doesn't it? Check out Dress here.
Well, that's my list. What are your favorites? Any particular bands you picked out from your favorite anime series? By the way, don't forget to check out Part I of this list over here.
