Whoa. Bet a lot of women want to work here. It's a story from last year which talks about a Japanese company giving time off for employees who just went through a break up. Wait, it gets better. It is an all female company where they even let you go off to shop, a shopping to heal the pain sort of thing.
The company in question is Hime & Company. Its staff apparently consist of female employee which might explain their sympathy towards breakups. Incidentally, the number of employees at the company come up to 6 which might explain why it is easy to give them time off. You know, small company, not much bureaucracy involved, etc.? Or is that me being cynical again?
Hime's company policy is interesting to say the least. Seems like younger women get less time off as opposed to older women. The company notes that younger women won't have as much trouble finding a new partner unlike women in their 40s. So if you are under 24 and your love life ended horribly, you can take on day off work to recuperate and mend your heart. After 25, you can have two days off and those over 30 can have 3 days. Oh and you are entitled to two annual shopping days. So take the day off work, go off to shop and you still get paid for that day. Not just that, apparently you can hop back to work and showcase what you bought. Seriously, quite a female-orientated company, this one.
A few folks have pish-poshed this as pampering. I don't know about that. I am guessing that the CEO of the company does expect folks to work hard when it is a normal working day. And if you have perks like that, it must mean they expect more from you. Thus, they probably expect you to contribute 110% of yourself to your work. Perks won't come for free; the company must have high expectations from its employees. By the way, this is a cosmetics marketing company so it goes without saying that the managers want folks to be in top form for their sales moments. And, correct me if I am wrong, but surely all that shopping counts as R&D for the company? Surely this way they know what women go for, at certain times of their lives and ways in which they improve their mood? It's like their very own study, done on their own employees. At the very least, it looks like the company is in touch with the thought patterns of their target audience.
